During a divorce, things can be complicated but real estate doesn’t have to be one of them. As a professional real estate agent, Erika Eschberger, REALTOR®, MRP, RENE, REDS. has gone through the process herself, selling and buying multiple properties while getting divorced and raising her five children through it all. Now settled in a recently purchased home in Manitou Springs, Erika understands the legal as well as the emotional aspects of going through a divorce in addition to being a certified Real Estate Divorce Specialist (REDS).
After Erika first moved here from Texas in 2016, she and her husband decided to separate and had to sell two different joint properties. Going through the process with five kids and juggling her own emotions is one of her inspirations for becoming a realtor and in late 2017, she started that process and committed to it even while struggling with her son having open heart surgery through and having to deal with it and court dates for divorce on her own.
The divorce pushed her to follow her dreams to get into real estate after dabbling with investment properties in Texas. Erika said “it seemed impossible with five kids and having been a stay at home mom for 13 years.” But, after getting her license in January 2018, her first client in February 2018, she bought her own home in April 2018 and another property in May 2019.
Buying and selling a home rank up there with divorce and childbirth as some of the most stressful things you can experience and when you are trying to find peace of mind, working with a realtor who understands the experience and how to work with both parties to sell the property, is priceless.
When selling real estate, there are many options, but having a realtor who understands the divorce process can be critical to peace of mind.
“I’m not there to take sides – I’m there to help all parties because I’ve been there – kind of like a mediator. It’s not always going to be a seamless process,” said Erika, “so someone who has been through and knows all the mistakes sellers can make while overwhelmed is a great resource.”
Selling a home can be stressful, especially in a modern market but it doesn’t have to be if you have the right support and team on your side.
“I know what you are going through mentally and emotionally in a divorce,” says Erika. “I’ve gone through it. I’ve sold and bought properties while juggling five kids. I’m here to help you and relieve stress as much as possible. “
